Yes, I know I'm a month late already, but better late than very late. Any comments regarding Michelin Arctic-Alpin vs Blizzak WS-50? They're about the same price at TireRack. And what about the Michelin Pilot Alpin at $30 more in 205/60-15 fitment - what does it offer for the added cost besides the H rating? Needless to say, I'm hoping for actual user comments here - I can read the blurbs on TireRack's web pages as well as the next guy, and the specs on all three tires look darned close to me. Brand name was "Michelin". Sam's stock varies over time, but you should check it out. I'm very happy with it. I have used them for almost 6 years now. I normally get about four season out of them. Put them on with the threat of first snow and take them off ASAP in the spring and you will maximize their life. If you leave them on too long, they will basically disappear. You have opened up the proverbial can of worms asking about snow tires again. This was a hot topic about 6 weeks ago. Most will disagree with me, but these are the people that I am passing at 80mph on the ice and snow covered highways that are doing about 40mph.... Well, instead of rushing the straightening and tire replacement, I bought new snows for the Volvo's steel wheels. After some research, I went with the Nokian Hakkapeliitta 1. I have previously run Blizzaks on my '94 325is. While I found them good in the snow, they never gave me the planted feeling that the Hakka's do. Before anyone gets all upset, yes, I am aware the Volvo is FWD, but in all circumstances, braking, cornering, etc., these things are fantastic. Dry pavement handling is comparable to the Blizzaks, i.e., not great. But, IMO, when you buy a summer tire, you buy a real summer tire, and when you buy a snow tire, you buy a real snow tire. These almost have too much grip if you like to hang the tail out frequently. Then again, with the amount of snow we've been getting, you may be of the mind to try to avoid that (say, on I-93). I don't think I'll ever go back to Blizzak's. Most everyone I've spoken to who has run Hakka's is devoted as well. If you're looking for a great, semi-local deal, call John & Son's Tire in Manchester, NH at 603-627-1585. No affiliation, just a happy customer. Their prices are fantastic. Concord Tire (a much larger shop than John's) quoted me $107 per tire, mounted and balanced. John's quoted me $88, also mounted and balanced. Plus, no NH sales tax. It's only 1 hr from Boston, and they are open Saturdays until noon (good idea to call a few days ahead). It is low enough to get under my lowered E30 (M3 springs), and the pressure release valve has a nice, smooth, slow action so when you lower the car, it doesn't just fall before you can stop it. Current list price is around $200.
