Subject: RE: [uuc] Camber Adjustment

What's your ride height, that will have an effect on your camber? Also the
thing you have to watch if you do use the washer trick a) you need longer
bolts (I'm sure you knew that) and b) by doing that you change the geometry
of the wheel rotation plane relative to the strut which in some cases of
offset and tire width will result in the inside of the tire rubbing on the
spring perch.

With an extremely lowered car and kmac camber plates and the bolt and washer
trick the most I ever got was -2.7. I just installed Ground Control and can
get over -3 now easily. However I would not recommend the GC plates if
you're still doing street driving. They are pretty harsh, but I think they
may have a street version now.

Maybe you can use the "swap the 96+ strut bearings" trick with the dinan
plates, but I don't have any experience with that set-up.

Subject: [uuc] Camber Adjustment

I purchased a set of Dinan -1.5 degree camber plates off of Ebay and
installed them on my 95 M3. When I aligned the front end, one side
-1.1 degree, and the other side had -.7 degrees. The castor came out
pretty close to spec for the new plates. Short of using washers behind the
lower strut mounting bolts, are there special spacers that are made for
adjusting the camber? I would like to go to -3 degrees, now that I don't
drive the car much other than track events.

Thanks for the help

     My .02 cents...

        I spent over 20 years as a dealer buying/selling only used BMWs,as
well as the usual personal addiction and mods both large and small to my
personal ones.Guess I've owned about 23 different BMWs since 1971.
While you learn by doing, and it's fun to modify many of the little
monsters,the advantages to owning a decent 535i for a few grand,far
outweighs upgrading a 533i,which the shop I sometimes work with has had a
very good example of with a bad engine sitting about 2 years;it just doesn't
pay to fix it,as opposed to adding another e28 535i,which has been done 3
times while the 533i still sits;'nuff said...
P.S.: ALL 533i's had manual seats,as did the early '85 USA spec
535i's.Ask me how I know...

Neil was talking about dedicated owners like those on this list; clearly
way out on the high end of the bell curve in terms of involvement in
their cars. Given the choice between two ads: "all service performed at
(fill in local dealer here)" and "maintained by fanatical UUC list
gearhead", which would you choose? --SC

    Hi Ellie;
Doubt you remember me. Active in 'CCA until recent years, but due
to accident injuries not much the past 5 years.Likely to want some items to
fill in gaps of O'fests I've missed.Started in '76 at D.C.,and even made it
back there in '96,but 80% of my O'fest dash plaques disappeared in a wreck
in '98,along with other items.I'd be interested in any of those
available,etc.

Geez..my car is susceptible to biological agents too....I am going to have to run out
to Home Depot again and buy a bunch of visquine and duct tape to wrap up my cars.
Will visquine and duct tape be new options as part of a 'first aid' or 'emergency'
roadside kit in future BMWs?

:-)

Actually, incase of biological attack I figured the microfiltered
compartment of the 540i was probably better than my duct taped house ;-)

The only part of the towing package you should get from the dealer is the
wiring harness. It's a plug and play part versus the headaches caused by
someone hacking into your cars wiring.

Installation of the OEM hitch requires the rear bumper to be removed. Half
of that $1000 dealer charge is labor. An independent hitch specialist will
charge about $150 to install a Draw-Tite and it has a higher tow rating than
the OEM hitch.

Especially if you can get some of the earlier activated carbon filters that
they used to put in the E39.

I got one of those new Sharper Image UltraDustBlasterSucker 3000 models that
they show on TV clearing a room of smoke in seconds...

With that baby cranked up to "high", I say let 'em nuke. My living room is
