Amazing what you can do with a tape loop. The constant upshifting is more in the 24-speed derailleur category, not the 5-speed automotive transmission. Even though the 5 ranks among my least favorite BMWs in the looks department, I was bummed. Then the wife and I saw one a couple weeks back, and were both pleasantly surprised. It is much nicer than I expected - same experience that I had with the latest 7. Not the same experience with the Z4 though. Maybe it is an acquired taste. Slowing/rolling to a stop- about 5 mph. Felt BIG bang from front end somewhere- like when you bottom out in a pothole at speed (This is RI). Sounded like it was from right lower front, but you know how these sounds can propagate. Afterwards, everything seemed OK. At first I thought I had run over a big sharp rock- stopped, got out, looked around and there is nothing on the road- smooth pavement, no rocks or even pebbles. Happened 3 or 4 more times, each time when transitioning from speed (40+ mph down to slow easy stop, after braking, releasing brake, and rolling slightly. Everything is absolutely normal with this car except when this happens. Took car to dealer and they can find nothing wrong- all suspension components, bushings, steering joints, ball joints, brakes, hubs, etc are tight as a drum. Does anyone have any ideas what could cause this? The sound is scary, and I am concerned that something is coming apart, but what could this be? The idle will be fine then the engine will do a little burp. But very irregularly. As I said, it had the same symptom at my last Inspection II. Then I could have sworn I hadn't noticed it anymore. Then again, it may be normal. Tell me about it. 1971 Olds Custom Cruiser 21 ft long 2 ton Tank bought new with OEM Firestone radials. I get about 10k miles on a tire and shed the tread. After about the fourth one (and replacement pro rated by the Firestone dealer) I took it into the Michelin dealer and had him put a set of his tires on it. And here I always blamed Firestone, never owned another car with Firestones on it........... It turned out to be cheaper to buy a ratty one at a used car lot in Italy, polish it up and shoot the scene. Same story with the three E-types. They bought three well-used ones for $2000 each, gave them a quickie paint job and then destroyed them, too. Same cliff, I believe. Try and find either of these cars cheap these days. The Lambo obviously wasn't the one advertised on the back cover of the current Motorsport magazine. 1970 Miura, 38,000 miles, previously owned by Frank Sinatra. Price on application... Believe or not, I found one in 1972 on a used car lot in Toronto, slightly ratty. I had a '70 911E in very nice shape and went to see if I could get a test drive. They did let me sit in it and rev the engine, but no drive until I made a serious offer. They were asking $19,000 Canadian, way beyond my means. It looked strange, sitting on a gravel lot in a run -down section of town, with strings of light bulbs overhead. I kept the Porsche for another six years.... Now I have '72 2002. I'm still living in the past, I guess. - -- Chris Skene For narration and voice-over services, check <http://skene.org/chris> ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 12 May 2003 21:22:15 -0700 From: marco <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: Re: [uuc] RE: New 5er "Alibei" Pontiac?
