Usually they come off OK. I don't have an impact wrench, I use one of those "+" style lug wrenches - I found own that actually fits the head correctly. Anyway, I've just finished the first wheel and eventually got them all off - but it took standing on one side of the wrench, etc. The wheels are aftermarket OZ, bolts some sort of chrome plated finish. But the threads are corroding - some rust, some white stuff (could be salt residue but these wheels & lugs usually don't see winter). I know the BMW specs are based on dry threads but should I at least put some WD40 on the threads to clean them up first? The last time I had this problem it was a frew months after a shop had the wheels off and on and assumed they overtorqued - but this time its me and I always hand torque. Any other suggestions? Thanks! Now back out to the garage... Group, I seem to recall a discussion here a while back about someone who took their car into the dealership for service, and as a fix, received a software update to their car from the dealer. As I remember, the updated software had some undesirable characteristic that could then not be reversed. My car's going in this week, and they mentioned a possible software update, and I just wanted to check and see if anyone had any recollection of this. About 15 seconds after I start it, it begins to run really rough, for about 20 seconds. The idle does not visibly fluctuate, but the motor is running so rough you can feel the car shaking. After the 20 seconds or so, it's completely normal, and runs great. Any ideas? Thanks, Neil 1999 M3 1994 325is __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! I think much of what you found through BMW financial might be explained through one of the BMW programs for dealers concerning used cars. My personal knowledge of this program is from a couple of years ago, so I encourage insiders with more up-to-date knowledge to correct any or all of this. BMW has a Full Circle program under which dealers sign-up (optional) to accept 100% of their lease returns at average Black Book wholesale value. That means the high mileage crap along with low mileage cherries. Since your selling dealer knows what he's paying to get the car back, he's more likely to offer a discount when you flip the car into a CPO conversion. On nice cars this works out quite well for a dealership but then BMW FS knows what the prevailing auction prices are for their sales (higher results than Black Book which is the average of all auctions, not just factory sales) and may well be reluctant to drop their pants on the residual since they've been spending big bucks for years to influence the price their returns bring going over the blocks they control or dominate. This program also explains why many of the better BMW lease returns never make to into the hands of non-franchised BMW stores. - -Phil Marx ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 Aug 2003 22:50:18 -0500 (Central Standard Time) From: "David DeBord" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [uuc] broken radiator plug I just flushed the coolant system. It was really messy and the engine drain bolt was a beech! I was so excited when I finished flushing (did a final bit with distilled water because passenger side wheel was on a ramp) that i was a little careless with the radiator plug & it broke off! It's just a couple of threads down. I know the best answer is to try to drill it out & replace it (don't have access to one until Monday), but what do you think? It did'nt seem to let any water out until the plug was almost all the way out. Would you risk driving it or wait? I put some water in to check but it doesn't seem to be leaking. Any idea how to remoe the old plug? I figure i coud use something with a shrp point to try to stick it toward the outside edge, and try to turn it. This must happen often. I hardly even turned it but it was with a screw driver. Just as it was snapping I was thinking that I read to HAND-Tighten! OOUCH! thanks d ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 09 Aug 2003 23:20:16 -0500 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [uuc] '93 525iT radiator The radiator on our '93 Touring is leaking from what appears to be a few inches above the coolant level sensor. I suspect this is the seam area. Unfortunate b/c the radiator was replaced a few years ago by the PO. Has anybody had any experience w/Reseda Radiator? They advertise in the Roundel. Any other suggestions? Should I need expect this to be a replacement item every few years? According to Bentley, it doesn't seem at all difficult to replace, but our transmission is w/o dipstick. Do I need to have a qualified technician check the trans fluid level after the radiator replacement? Is there anything else, other than hoses, that I should look at or replace while the radiator's out?
