Yes, just use the mumble wizard and have it create a certificate for you. When you start mumble for the first time, it should have prompted you with a dialog to either import an existing one, or create a self-signed one. The certificate is used to encrypt the communication, very similar to https. The certificate is also used for authentication for special user-rights (like creating channels, and all .....)
