Thanks Sam.
I've attached a press release based on the content that we will
release to the public and press tomorrow morning (PT). Please review
the release and provide changes and edits in short order as we are on
a tight timeframe.
If you are going to be in attendance at OSCON, please provide me with
some indication of your availability to meet with community leaders /
press members during the week as we will likely have some inquiries.
I am here at OSCON, and pretty flexible all week, if there is anything I
can help with.
Sam Ramji and I will be arriving in Portland early tomorrow morning (9
or 10 am) and should be available most of the day - we'd love to meet
up with the rest of you. I can be reached on-site at 312-479-2320.
Cheers
Shanley

Morning all,
I've all but finished two of the more important sections of the website
(http://www.opencloudinitiative.org/) — the About pages
(http://www.opencloudinitiative.org/about) and the Governance pages
(http://www.opencloudinitiative.org/governance).
The About section talks about the OCI, and this is the overview I've come up
with:
Vision: A global cloud of clouds ("Intercloud"), interconnected by open
standard interfaces exchanging open standard formats ("Open Cloud").
Mission: To find a balance between cloud computing users and vendors by
deriving a community consensus "Open Cloud" definition and advocating its
universal adoption.
Objectives: [from Articles of Association& Bylaws] The specific purposes
for which this corporation is organised are to:
educate the public about open cloud [cloud computing products& services
that comply with open standards];
develop and maintain a set of open cloud principles by way of an open
community consensus process;
encourage the computing industry to participate in development of open cloud
products& services;
persuade organizations and vendors to comply with the open cloud principles;
provide resources for sharing information about open cloud products&
services;
manage a certification program to allow use of one or more certification
marks in association with open cloud products& services that satisfy the
open cloud principles, as determined by way of an open community consensus
process; and
advocate for open cloud principles.
Slogan: A non-profit advocate of open cloud computing
Values: The core values of the Open Cloud Initiative (OCI) are integrity,
equality, community engagement, transparency and accountability.
I've also written up the History of the organisation so far, starting back
in March of 2009 — we should try to keep this updated as we go.
If you're not happy with any of this (in particular the vision, mission,
slogan or values) then please speak now or forever hold your peace.
Thanks,
Sam
