Do you have the selectivity specs for this vintage receiver? It is listed as a double/triple conversion superhet.
I agree that a pre-selector will not give you much benefit unless there are selectivity or image rejection issues. These devices cannot improve the signal to noise ratio the input to receiver. Unless the unit incorporates a low noise amplification stage, there is likely little to be gained. ________________________________ From: "Fuqua, Bill L" <[email protected]> To: "[email protected]" <[email protected]>; BoatAnchors <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, June 9, 2014 11:04:22 AM Subject: Re: [Boatanchors] Preselector & Elmac PMR-6a? If you can hear additional background noise when you connect the antenna, then probably no unless you have a problem with image rejection. 73 Bill wa4lav ________________________________________ From: Boatanchors [[email protected]] on behalf of [email protected] [[email protected]] Sent: Monday, June 09, 2014 1:00 PM To: BoatAnchors Subject: [Boatanchors] Preselector & Elmac PMR-6a? Would a preselector make enough of a difference used with an Elmac PMR-6a to be bothered with? Added selectivity and low-noise sensitivity would be the intended goal - used in a fixed rather than original-design mobile setting.
