No news to me.

Using HTTP, we're *forced* to use individual requests, each sending complete 
information, and the server has to do eg. user/host lookup on every request. 
Using a stateful TCP protocol, we could authenticate once and do multiple 
things over the same connection. There, saved you some DB queries. And we 
could have server-client messages, probably useful to in-house low-latency 
use.
