What language will you be using for your project? I am a student working on
Python support in BOINC over the summer for a project called PyMW. It allows
you to create your entire project in Python and takes care of many BOINC
details automagically.
If you are interested in using Python with BOINC, I will be happy to help.

You can read more about PyMW here: http://pymw.sourceforge.net/
