BOINC would be much friendlier to develop for if it had a guaranteed runtime environment (for example, all client's run Linux with Python 2.6 installed). Has anyone considered sending an extremely lightweight VM to the client? I guess you would need some method of auto-configuration, so you could specify what components each project needed and automatically setup the environment accordingly. I'm not proposing anything, just curious.
