No prob with that at all. It's just a way all physical measure units live. 
Etalon of meter was replaced by length that light passes for corresponding 
fraction of second and second itself constantly get redefined as we achieve 
more stable and easy reproducible clocks.

Reference PC will continue to work until its death. Surely it should be not 
single PC, it should be group of PC to survive suddenly death of etalon.
When new host will introduced to etalon group it passes calibration agains 
already working ones then it can be used as etalon by itself.
That way all precise measuring instruments calibrated.

But just imagine, no more flaming about why this project has one multiplier 
and another has another multiplier.... It's worth for projects to buy few 
PCs and maintain them connected to BOINC IMO ;)
