The largest problem with testing the feature at this moment is that the two projects with which one can set the preference cannot be updated. Seti not due to whatever is ailing them and BOINC Alpha not because its database was taken offline.
So I checked the code on this preference and added <suspend_cpu_usage>25</suspend_cpu_usage> to my global_prefs.xml and global_prefs_override.xml files, restarted BOINC after doing that. . Edited cc_config.xml to take out the line that tells BOINC to suspend when it detects Spybot in memory. It's about the only program I can test with that will take a sufficient hit on my system, starting it up will take always a full CPU, updating it and scanning with it will always take most of one CPU. So I am now running Spybot S&D with this 'updated BOINC', hoping I have the correct line in the prefs files. Spybot has been taking all of one CPU (45% to 55% according to Windows task manager) for more than a minute now, BOINC 6.10.32 continues to run Einstein and Enigma on the other CPU. Does it slow my system down, though? Not really. I haven't had slow-downs since the dawn of BOINC 5.10... Still, using the <exclusive_app> options in cc_config.xml I put in most of whatever I am playing or using that I know hits the CPUs a lot. Since these lines aren't really a tester thing, perhaps that we need to find a way to easily list and set exclusive (GPU) apps through the GUI, instead of adding more things that are notoriously difficult to explain to new and old users. Still no pausing of BOINC... Spybot has been taking up one CPU for over 20 minutes now. Seems to me it doesn't work, unless I am using it wrong. So I now manually set <suspend_cpu_usage>75</suspend_cpu_usage> A minute later... Doesn't matter much. Spybot takes 45-55% of the CPUs, Einstein and Primegrid run on the other CPU with the remaining amount of cycles. 18-Feb-10 07:56:27 einst...@home Restarting task h1_1175.85_S5R4__1349_S5R6a_1 using einstein_S5R6 version 301 18-Feb-10 07:56:27 PrimeGrid Restarting task ap26_3396710_3396721_256_0 using ap26 version 104 18-Feb-10 07:57:31 PrimeGrid [checkpoint_debug] result ap26_3396710_3396721_256_0 checkpointed I give up. :-) -- -- Jord. _______________________________________________ boinc_dev mailing list [email protected] http://lists.ssl.berkeley.edu/mailman/listinfo/boinc_dev To unsubscribe, visit the above URL and (near bottom of page) enter your email address.
