Hi Alan,

I think you are confusing Darwin version numbers with OS X version numbers.

As the Apple representative explained, the Darwin version number is
different from the OS X version number, but one is easily converted
to the other. Darwin is always OS X, so the first part of the OS X
version number (10) is implied by the OS name being Darwin.

The second part of the OS X version is the Darwin major version
number plus 4. The third part of the OS X version is the same as the
second part (minor version) of the Darwin version number, so:

  - Darwin version 10.x.y corresponds to OS 10.6.x
  - Darwin version 9.x.y corresponds to OS 10.5.x
  - Darwin version 8.x.y corresponds to OS 10.4.x
  - Darwin version 7.x.y corresponds to OS 10.3.x

BOINC gets the sysname and release fields from the uname API, so:
  - for OS 10.6.3 Snow Leopard it correctly reports the OS as Darwin 10.3.0.
  - for OS 10.5.8 Leopard it correctly reports the OS as Darwin 9.8.0.
  - for OS 10.4.11 Tiger it correctly reports the OS as Darwin 8.11.0.
  - for OS 10.3.9 Jaguar it correctly reports the OS as Darwin 7.9.0.

All BOINC client and server functions expect the Darwin version numbers.

Cheers,
--Charlie
