Dear David, The new proposal seems OK for me. I think that the major problem with the BOINC client is the user interface. The user has too many options, and some of them are difficult to understand. One approach to solve this, is what we have now about simple and advance view but also related to the preferences (for example VLC player uses this approach too). Thus, the first time that users click in the BOINC->Preferences they will see only the basic options, well explained and with beautiful icons (you can grab them from open source projects like KDE, Gnome or Tango). If the user has more experience, he could click an option that says: Advance Preferences, and there they will have the full available list.
I think that with this approach, users will be more confident.
