I have a couple of suggestions:
1) Make the left panel a tree view with Area as the top level nodes and
possibly sub area between those and the projects which would be the leaf
nodes.
2) Word wrap anything with a scroll bar so that there is only a vertical
scroll bar.

The "Choose Project" page in the Manager is currently
a major weak link in the GUI.
