This doesn't seem to be the convention, at least on Windows.
There are two directories:
Documents and Settings/All Users/Application Data/
which contains data, and
Program Files/
which contains executables.
In all cases that I can see, the corresponding subdirectories
have the same name: Adobe, Cisco Systems, Google, Skype and so on.

So I think we'll stick with the current naming.
