Hello, I'd like to announce the release of the *GridBee Web Computing Framework** *and the *GridBee Client* web application.
The *GridBee Web Computing Framework* is the JavaScript library that makes grid computation possible in modern browsers. It provides a framework for implementing grid protocols and a secure sandbox environment to run workunits in. The *GridBee Client* is a grid client web application targeting casual users, and its primary goal is to introduce volunteer computing to a whole new group of users. These users are those who use web applications for everyday tasks like mailing or social networking but feel uncomfortable (or are not capable of) installing native applications. A hosted instance of the Client is available here: http://webcomputing.iit.bme.hu/client/ (recommended browsers: Chrome, Firefox) The two projects are in development for about a year. The previous release under a temporary name was made available in July (see the announcement<http://lists.ssl.berkeley.edu/pipermail/boinc_dev/2011-July/017884.html>). There were several improvements since then: GridBee Web Computing Framework: - new, clean internal structure - the source code is now open source GridBee Client: - redesigned user interface - predefined "templates" list to present a set of preconfigured projects to the user (joining a preconfigured project is one click) - ability to add BOINC project by project url, username, and password (instead of scheduler url and authkey) Both project are open source and licensed under the *LGPL license*. The repositories and issue trackers are hosted on github: (feel free to post feature requests or bugs!) https://github.com/terembur/gridbee-framework https://github.com/molnarg/gridbee-client Direct link to the source code tarballs: https://github.com/terembur/gridbee-framework/tarball/master https://github.com/molnarg/gridbee-client/tarball/gridbee-1.0 More information is available on our website: * http://webcomputing.iit.bme.hu* <http://webcomputing.iit.bme.hu>.
