Well, as far as I understand the example apps are meant as an example, e.g. might be the first apps that are delivered to the clients of a new project, and give an example how actual project Apps should be linked.
I would vote for a configure option --disable-example-apps that avoids building these altogether, e.g. if you only need to update the server code or build libsched.
