Hi Richard,

I quickly read through the very long thread and I may have missed something,
but I don't understand why he would need to run something in the Terminal
window. Terminal is the command-line interface to the UNIX underlying Mac OS X.
If I read the thread correctly, he needs to edit the client_state.xml file:
> The only way to recover from this for me has been to edit client_state.xml
> and remove all entries related to the crashed task.
or:
> deleting account_climateprediction.net.xml from BOINC's data directory

I would strongly recommend the second option, as it is very easy to seriously
mess up the client_state.xml file if you make a mistake editing it.

Note also that if he does modify any file in the BOINC_Data directory with a
text editor, he will probably need to fix the file owner, group and
permissions. There are two ways to do this:

 * Run the BOINC Mac installer again. I wrote it so it doubles as a tool to fix
BOINC's permissions.
 * Run the Mac_SA_Secure.sh script from
<http://boinc.berkeley.edu/mac_build/Mac_SA_Secure.sh>. This does require using
Terminal.

Cheers,
--Charlie
