Hi Art (and everyone else) The outgoing chair of BOINC's PMC (David Anderson), and the incoming chair (Kevin Reed) have jointly asked me to act as Release Manager for the next public release of BOINC. That will be version 7.10.x, and will be released for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux - Android will be a different kettle of fish entirely. I'm a Windows specialist, so I'll be relying on the good offices of Charlie Fenton, Laurence Field, and Gianfranco Costamagna to help me out. Plus all you good developers and testers out there, of course. You've slightly bounced me into a premature announcement, but it was coming anyway - no problem with that. We've been doing some preparatory testing already, and one or two things came to light just yesterday: we're having another conference call tomorrow night, and the details should be sorted out then. Any files you see in http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/ will be private drops being tested as part of this preliminary process. Please be careful to note the datestamp as well as the version number: v7.9.0 came into use shortly after the public release of v7.8.3, and can cover a significant variation in features. By all means start trying to tear any recent build to shreds, but the formal process won't start for a day or two: I think we're waiting to get the updated translations (thanks, Christian) merged into the master branch so that they can be reviewed at the same time. Further details of the process and timetable will be released after our meeting tomorrow. I hope that makes it clearer. Richard Haselgrove

It is available on the http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/ download site, but not yet listed as "ready for development testing" on the BOINC public download site. 1. Should any users be testing this release at this time since it's "available" to those who are aware of the alternative site? 2. Also is there a preliminary list of changes available from 7.8.3 for the 7.9.0 version?
