Manchester United penpix for FA Cup final

Penpix of Manchester United players ahead of Saturday's FA Cup final against
Arsenal in Cardiff:

GOALKEEPERS

1-TIM HOWARD, Age 25. The United States international signed from New York/New
Jersey Metrostars in 2003. Made a good start to his Old Trafford career,
replacing Fabien Barthez, but this season lost his place to Carroll before
making a late comeback.

13-ROY CARROLL, 27. Signed from Wigan in 2001. Found it hard to break into the
first team but enjoyed an extended run from September until a fumble at home to
AC Milan in February cost United a home Champions League defeat. Regular for
Northern Ireland.

DEFENDERS

2-GARY NEVILLE, 30. Reliable right back for club and country. Has 76 England
caps and stands to make 500th United appearance next year. Solid tackles,
sensible passes and good positioning have made him first choice for more than a
decade.

3-PHIL NEVILLE, 28. Can play either in defence or midfield. His versatility has
kept him in constant contention at Old Trafford since he made his debut in a
Manchester derby in 1995. Has won 50 international caps. Brother of right-back
Gary.

4-GABRIEL HEINZE, 26. Signed in close season from Paris St Germain. Won Olympic
gold with Argentina in Athens. Has had an impressive debut season, confirming
his reputation in France as a tough, no-nonsense tackler. Injury doubt for the
final.

5-RIO FERDINAND, 26. Returned against Liverpool in mid-September after serving
an eight-month ban for missing a drugs test, ruling him out of Euro 2004. Calm
under pressure, has developed into one of Europe's best defenders since his
$47-million transfer from Leeds United after the 2002 World Cup.

6-WES BROWN, 25. Was seen as one of the best prospects for United and England
but his progress was constantly hampered by injury. Now a first-team regular,
his matchwinner against Newcastle was his first league goal for United.

22-JOHN O'SHEA, 24. Irish international who established himself in 2002/2003,
playing in every position across the back four and in central midfield. Yet to
nail down a regular slot or position this season, has often come off the bench.

27-MIKAEL SILVESTRE, 27. Another versatile player, comfortable at left-back or
centre-back. French international signed from Inter Milan in 1999. Red-carded
against Arsenal for head-butting Fredrik Ljungberg in the 4-2 victory at
Highbury in February, has been losing out recently to Brown.

MIDFIELDERS:

7-CRISTIANO RONALDO, 20. His speed and trickery persuaded United to pay close
to $20 million to sign him from Sporting in August 2003 and they have not been
disappointed. Got the opener in the 2004 FA Cup final win over Millwall, shone
for Portugal as they reached Euro 2004 final and scored twice in the 4-2 win
over Arsenal in February.

11-RYAN GIGGS, 31. Speedy Welsh winger who has been with United since Alex
Ferguson signed him on schoolboy forms at 14. Made his 600th appearance for
United this season and scored a memorable solo goal against Arsenal in the 1999
FA Cup semi-final.

15-KLEBERSON, 25. A member of Brazil's 2002 World Cup-winning side. Has
struggled since joining United from Atletico Paranaense in 2003 and has lost
his place in the national team as a result.

16-ROY KEANE, 33. United's talismanic captain is back in midfield after an
unconvincing spell in central defence earlier this season. Also back in the
Ireland team after a two-year absence, his duel with Vieira should be one of
the high points.

17-LIAM MILLER, 24. Creative midfielder who joined United on a free transfer
from Celtic in the close season. Talented but still a fringe player.

18-PAUL SCHOLES, 30. Free-scoring and influential attacking midfielder, now
solely dedicated to United after retiring from international football in
August. Scored United's winner in their 1-0 FA Cup semi-final defeat of Arsenal
last season.

24-DARREN FLETCHER, 21. Highly promising Scottish midfielder who mixes poise
and skill on the ball with plenty of industry. Still battling to establish a
regular first-team slot, having joined as a teenage trainee in 2000.

STRIKERS:

8-WAYNE ROONEY, 19. England's top scorer at Euro 2004 and golden boy of English
soccer. United paid Everton $36 million for the stocky striker in August. Made
an immediate impact with a debut hat-trick in the Champions League against
Fenerbahce and has become the club's top scorer this season.

9-LOUIS SAHA, 26. Moved to United from Fulham in January 2004 for $21 million
and went on to earn a call-up to the France squad. Tough competition, manager
Alex Ferguson's penchant for a 4-5-1 formation and injury problems have
restricted his appearances.

10-RUUD VAN NISTELROOY, 28. Scored more than 120 goals for United since his
$34-million transfer from PSV Eindhoven in 2001 including 30 European goals --
a club record. His controversial late penalty miss in the home match against
Arsenal last season sparked a post-match fracas which marred the fixture.
Returning to form after being out for three months through injury.

12-DAVID BELLION, 22. Joined from Sunderland in 2003 but the Frenchman remains
a fringe player. Scored the goal which knocked Arsenal's second-string side out
of the League Cup in December.

14-ALAN SMITH, 24. Caused controversy by joining from Leeds for $13 million a
year ago. Technically gifted but has a sometimes fiery temperament. Enjoyed a
great start to the season but Rooney's arrival severely limited his chances.

Glory Glory ManUtd,

Dein
