MILAN, June 30 (Reuters) - Georgian defender Kakha Kaladze has agreed to a new
five-year contract with AC Milan, the club said on Thursday.
Kaladze had been expected to join English champions Chelsea after reportedly
agreeing personal terms but the two clubs were unable to agree a transfer fee.
The former Dynamo Kiev left-back's current deal with Milan was due to expire in
June 2006 with Milan running the risk of losing the defender on a free transfer.
His new contract will keep him on the club's books until 2010 -- or ensure
Milan can demand a transfer fee should he wish to leave.
Kaladze joined Milan in 2000 but was restricted to just 19 appearances in Serie
A last season and made only six during an injury plagued 2003-04 campaign.
He will face strong competition for a place in the side next term with the
arrival of Czech international left-back and midfielder Marek Jankulovski.
