Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry says Club World Championship success
can help the club secure the investment needed to fulfil their expansion
plans.
The Reds will travel to Japan to play two matches from the 15-18 December.
"Clearly the more successful we are on the pitch the more we are going to be
off it. It's self-fulfilling," he said.
"To be going as champions of Europe must help. It's a great platform. The
stadiums should be full and there'll be a worldwide TV audience. It all
helps."
Liverpool travel to Tokyo to play either Costa Rican side Deportivo Saprissa
or Australian champions Sydney FC in the Toyota Cup semi-final in Yokohama
on 12 December.
If they win, they face a likely final against South American champions Sao
Paulo - who face Egyptian side Al Ahly or All Ittihad from Saudi Arabia -
three days later.
The Merseysiders are still intent on moving to a new stadium, but the
estimated price of the proposed new Stanley Park development has risen from
£80m to £150m, so it is believed the Liverpool board think outside
investment is inevitable.
Parry has been criticised for missing the boat in terms of securing funding
and the Tokyo tournament comes more than six months after their memorable
Champions League triumph in Istanbul.
He has held recent talks with the Kraft family in America about possible
future investment, but has dismissed any chance of an announcement prior to
the competition.
"Everyone knows we have been looking to secure investment for a long time
now and not just a quick fix but for the long term," Parry added.
"It should help our plans for the stadium, for improving the team and
getting back to winning trophies on a regular basis again."
