. ARSENAL v CHELSEA: CLASSICS
Chelsea skipper John Terry has targeted an improvement on even his side's
imperious form to blast the Gunners out of the title race.
“As players, we can always do better,” said Terry. “It’s the same with the
fans. The game at Anfield in the Champions League last season was a huge one,
and made us realise what the fans can do.”

MANCHESTER CITY v BIRMINGHAM CITY: PREVIEW
Manchester City’s Trevor Sinclair has warned Birmingham City not to fall into
the trap of believing they are too good to go down.
Sinclair, preparing to face Birmingham at the City of Manchester Stadium,
said: “I was in a West Ham team full of big-name players who got relegated,
even though everyone used to tell us we were too good to go down.”
Jamie Clapham is urging the Blues to build on their morale-boosting victory
against Fulham after admitting Steve Bruce’s side are still in “dire straits.”
Clapham said: “It was the result we needed, but we have to keep it going.
There’s no point winning against Fulham if we go and lose at the weekend.”

  EVERTON v BOLTON WANDERERS: PREVIEW
Goalkeeper Richard Wright is hoping to make the most of his opportunity to
help Everton towards the top half of the table, with Nigel Martyn still
battling a groin injury.
“The games are coming thick and fast so hopefully I can get some games under
my belt and perform the way I know I can and enjoy the football,” said Wright.
Sam Allardyce hopes to inflict more disappointment on David Moyes after both
Bolton Wanderers and Everton missed out on the acquisition of Roy Keane.
"We will probably both cry over our beer after the game but I hope I am not
crying as much as Dave because we have got a result against him," said
Allardyce.

ASTON VILLA v MANCHESTER UNITED: PREVIEW
Edwin van der Sar hopes Manchester United can continue their momentum against
Aston Villa after their midweek triumph over Wigan Athletic.
“Hopefully the result on Wednesday helped us turn the corner,” said Van der
Sar. “We really need to win six or seven matches on the trot."
Villa midfielder Steven Davis admits he is still picking up tips from his
boyhood hero Paul Scholes, whom he is expected to line up against on Saturday.
Davis said: “It is a special game for me. Playing against world-class players
and top teams is what you aim for. It is good to test yourself against the best
– especially someone like Paul Scholes.”

  FULHAM v BLACKBURN ROVERS: PREVIEW
Chris Coleman insists Fulham will benefit defensively from the return of Luis
Boa Morte and Papa Bouba Diop for their clash with Blackburn Rovers.
"We missed Boa and Bouba's penetration against Birmingham,” Coleman said.
“They take a lot of weight off us defensively when they're attacking because
everyone is afraid of their pace and power."
Rovers goalkeeper Brad Friedel insists his confrontation with team-mate
Robbie Savage during the 3-2 win over West Ham United is evidence of his side’s
desire to establish themselves in the top half of the table.
He said: “Robbie thought that play should have gone one way and I thought it
should have gone another. That is what it was all about and it underlined how
keen we all are to succeed.”

  YAKUBU v DEFOE: HEAD-TO-HEAD
Middlesbrough midfielder George Boateng is backing his team’s resilience to
fuel a drive up the table as they prepare to meet Tottenham Hotspur.
The Dutchman said: “In other seasons we have had a really bad run going into
Christmas but that’s not the case this year. If we lose a game, we tend to win
the next one."
Spurs could elect to launch a clear-out of their midfield options when the
January transfer window opens, with the likes of Michael Brown, Sean Davis and
Pedro Mendes struggling for first-team football.
Davis said: “I want to play for Tottenham’s first team, but if that’s not the
case, then I’m going to have to consider going on loan or a permanent move.
When you’re not even making an 18 or 20-man squad, it can be depressing.”

PORTSMOUTH v WEST BROMWICH ALBION: PREVIEW
Harry Redknapp is agonising over whether to recall Laurent Robert for
Portsmouth’s relegation battle against West Bromwich Albion.
Redknapp admitted: “For sure he’s a real talent. People say he’s up for it
now and wants to prove a point to me and play. And if he does that then great."
Jonathan Greening has revealed West Brom’s training sessions have been cut
short by manager Bryan Robson for fear of burn-out during matches.
Greening said: “There is a great buzz around the place. We have been flying
in training and sometimes the manager has to stop it because he thinks we won’t
keep anything for Saturday.”

WEST HAM UNITED v NEWCASTLE UNITED: PREVIEW
West Ham United defender James Collins is not letting his old pals act get in
the way of a potential clash with Newcastle United striker Michael Owen at
Upton Park if Wales international colleague Danny Gabbidon fails to recover
sufficiently from a cut knee.
Collins said: "It's unfortunate for him that he's injured when he's been
doing so well but I came here to play games and if I'm needed I want to play as
much as I can."
Newcastle boss Graeme Souness will head for Upton Park feeling like a huge
weight has been lifted from his shoulders after last week’s 1-0 win over
Arsenal.
Souness said: “There has been a lot of talk recently about pressure, but when
you are at a big club, the pressure is constantly on and the players have to be
able to handle that.”

WIGAN ATHLETIC v CHARLTON ATHLETIC: PREVIEW
Paul Jewell is convinced Wigan Athletic will retain their Barclays
Premiership status with something to spare despite losing five games on the
trot.
“We are not used to losing games and I don’t like it,” said Jewell. “But I am
not down or desperate because basically we need 15 points from 22 games to stay
up and I believe we will do it comfortably.”
Radostin Kishishev is preparing to put his body on the line for Charlton
Athletic again in the heart of the midfield battle at the JJB Stadium.
The versatile Bulgaria international said: “Over here, the games are very
quick, with opponents hard and powerful. You need to fight every game and if
you don’t, you end up losing.”
