Liverpool v Tottenham
Anfield
Saturday, 14 January
Kick-off: 1500 GMT
BBC Radio Five Live
---------------------------------
Liverpool's Fernando Morientes should return, leaving Bolo Zenden as the
only player in
the treatment room. Jose Reina should return in goal in place of Scott
Carson, while new boys
Jan Kromkamp and Daniel Agger may play. Tottenham are without injured captain
Ledley King
(groin) and star midfielder Edgar Davids (ankle). Andy Reid, Lee Young-Pyo
and Teemu Tainio
are available and Mido can play before joining up with Egypt, but Noureddine
Naybet is with
Morocco.
---------------------------------
Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez:
"Tottenham are a good side and deserve their place in the top four. "They are
serious
contenders to end the season in a Champions League place. "They play good
football and have
good players so we know it will be hard. "It maybe more difficult because
the league will
take on more importance for them after they went out of the FA Cup."
Tottenham captain Ledley King:
"The lads are obviously disappointed with the result on Sundaywhen we were
knocked out of the
FA Cup. "We realise we have to bounce back and how important our position
is in the league
now we are out of two cups. "Liverpool will be a tough team to face because
they have been
brilliant recently, not conceding many goals and now starting to score freely."

BIG-MATCH FACTS
LIVERPOOL against Tottenham is a top four showdown between two clubs enjoying
their best ever
Premiership campaigns. The European champions are one place and one point
superior, four points
below Manchester United and automatic entry to next season's Champions League.
They are 17
points behind leaders Chelsea and have two games in hand on the top two. That
they haven't
taken closer order is due to a poor start when only one win was recorded from
the first six
League games. A draw would give the Reds exactly 100 Premiership points under
Rafael Benitez.
The Merseysiders are on the joint longest current unbeaten run in the top
division of 11
matches, alongside Manchester United. Their 10 match winning run was ended by a
2-2 draw at
Bolton on 2 January. Now the Anfield club are out to extend their winning home
League run to
eight games. The European champions have a month of tough fixtures after this,
with trips to
Manchester United, Chelsea and Wigan and a visit to Arsenal among their next
five Premiership
matches.
The last three Premiership meetings between these clubs were drawn, including
the most recent
two at Anfield. Four goals were shared in last season's corresponding fixture.
Steven Gerrard
hit the post in the dying minutes and also missed a second-half penalty, but
Liverpool twice
came from behind to take the point. Luis Garcia and Sami Hyypia cancelled out
Erik Edman and
Robbie Keane goals. Liverpool are unbeaten in 11 home Premiership games against
the Londoners.
TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR will want to strike back from the last minute FA Cup loss to
Leicester, with
victory over Liverpool which would be enough to lift them above their
Merseyside opponents into
third place, and keep Martin Jol's side on course for a first ever Champions
League adventure.
The North Londoners has shown their fighting spirit in this campaign. They beat
Charlton (a),
Sunderland (h) and Portsmouth (h) from losing positions, and were behind
against Aston Villa
(a), Manchester United (a) and Middlesbrough (a) and fought back to draw in all
three cases -
effectively bagging 12 points from matches in which they were in arrears. Only
West Ham can
match that performance.
Spurs have not lost in five top flight meetings with Liverpool since an odd
goal in five
reverse at White Hart Lane on 16 March 2003. They've drawn four and lost seven
League visits to
Anfield since a 1-2 victory on 25 August 1993, when Teddy Sheringham scored
both, one from the
spot. It was the Londoners' only away Premier League maximum against the
Merseysiders.

REFEREE:
Dermot Gallagher (Banbury, Oxfordshire)
Rob Styles was originally selected to referee this match, and Dermot Gallagher
was due to be
in charge of Arsenal v Middlesbrough, but they have been swapped in a late
change.
