'CRAIG BELLAMY was involved in an ugly tunnel
bust-up with Newcastle staff last night.
The Liverpool striker, who spent four years with
the Toon, had a slanging match with the Geordies
seconds after his sides win. There were even
claims of a punch-up with Republic of Ireland
full-back Stephen Carr, although they were immediately
shot down by Kop boss Rafa Benitez.
Both players had to be pulled apart by ref Mark
Halsey as they threatened to square up towards the
end of the game.
And within seconds police raced down the tunnel
as the teams left the pitch.
Benitez was adamant that no punches were thrown
after the game although he did admit there had
been an incident.
He said: I could hear something but couldnt
understand it and I couldnt see it. It was over in
maybe two seconds and it was just shouting,
nothing more.
Bellamy, 27, had been booed all evening by Toon
fans, who still despise him for a row with
Newcastle legend Alan Shearer before he left for
Blackburn.
He had also missed a sitter during last nights
match, earning him another dose of verbals from
travelling supporters.
Toon chief Glenn Roeder insisted he had seen
nothing after the match. He said: I was off the
pitch quickly, up the tunnel and in the dressing
room.
