Mourinho rules out Barthez move
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho ruled out a move for former France goalkeeper
Fabien Barthez after their 1-0 victory over Barcelona on Wednesday.
With Petr Cech and Carlo Cudicini out with head injuries, Hilario stepped
in for the Champions League tie.
Barthez is a free agent after recently announcing his retirement.
But Mourinho said: "What we have to try to get is a third goalkeeper and
Fabien is not a preferred third goalkeeper. He is a high-profile goalkeeper."
He added: "What I know in this moment is that we have 50 agents calling
us and, if they call us, they call the press.
"So Fabien Barthez is a name. There are a lot of names in the air. What I
know is that Carlo and Hilario are very good goalkeepers and it is not easy for
somebody to come and play in this team.
"We need somebody to give us security and replace Petr Cech in the group
of keepers. That is the profile of the goalkeeper we are looking for."
Hilario played his part in helping Chelsea secure the win over Barcelona.
Mourinho insisted his side were more superior than the scoreline
suggests.
He said: "It is a great victory, not just the three points but the way we
got the three points.
"I just feel sorry we could not kill the game before, because we had
many, many chances to score the second goal.
"For the difference between the two sides, I think 1-0 is short. Now we
have to think about finishing top."
Mourinho dedicated the win to Vicky Buchanan, a member of the Chelsea
backroom staff who died in a road accident on Tuesday.
He said: "It's not just for injured goalkeepers Carlo Cudicini and Petr
Cech, it's much more sad than that.
"A lovely girl worked for the club and shared moments with us at the
training ground.
"I think we have to think about Victoria and her family and this victory
is for them."
Barcelona manager Frank Rijkaard did not share Mourniho's view of the
game, claiming the sides were evenly matched until the goal.
He said: "It was a tight, close game until Drogba changed all that.
"I think I was right to take some risks by going three at the back and
try and get something out of the game.
"But Chelsea are a great side and tough when they go ahead."
