Grella keen to move on

*VINCE Grella wants out of struggling Parma as Italian giants Inter Milan
and a host of English Premier League clubs are showing interest in the
Socceroos midfielder.*

Grella revealed yesterday that he is sick of being caught up in relegation
battles with Parma, where he is one of the Italian club's prized assets.

"Bloody oath I'd go if it's true. Inter are a huge club like Barcelona or
Manchester United,'' he said.

"The January transfer rumours are flying around but I have heard that I am
one of seven that they (Inter) would like to get. How do you say no if it is
right?''

Scouts from Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle and Middlesbrough were at Loftus
Road last month to put the rule over Grella when he played for the Socceroos
in a friendly against Ghana.

Socceroos coach Graham Arnold rates Grella the most important player in the
national team.

"He's the one to get the ball to and release it and when we lose it, we look
to him to break things up for us,'' Arnold said.

"He's such a good player now, so mature and confident and tactically aware.

"That comes with playing in Italian football.''

Life at Parma just hasn't been the same for Grella since his close mate and
fellow Socceroo man Marco Bresciano joined Palermo.

While Palermo are sitting third and chasing a Champions League spot, Parma
are second-last.

"We've always been at the bottom end, but I think this time it is going to
be harder than other years to get out of it,'' he said.

"We've been too long fighting relegation and Parma have a few little
problems. The president resigned and the situation has been awkward.

"No disrespect to Parma. I have had a great relationship with them, but it
is time to move on. This is my third season with the club but the team has
been chopped to pieces from last year.

"It has been a huge stepping stone in preparing me in the best possible way
to eventually play at a World Cup. It left me in the best physical
condition.

"But I have reached a stage now where I want to play for a club in the
Champions League. I want to pick a team that has a project and is ambitious.
The economic side, naturally, is important but I really want to play in the
Champions League like some of my Aussie team-mates. Those who are playing in
England have been putting in a good word for me.''

At 27, Grella believes he has many good years ahead with the Socceroos and
is looking forward to the Asian Cup in July.

"For the Australian public the World Cup was a great memory but it's quickly
forgotten in Europe,'' he said.

"We earned a lot of respect by playing good football, attractive football
and winning games.

"The Asian Cup hasn't the prestige of a World Cup but it is important for us
as a team. It's a big occasion. But winning the tournament won't be easy ...
the good thing is we still have a strong team and there's a nucleus of good
young players coming through.''
