MILAN, Italy: Willy Aubameyang scored the winning goal for AC Milan in its
3-2 victory over Juventus on Saturday in the Trofeo Berlusconi exhibition
match.
It was the only meeting this season between Italy's two most successful
clubs after Juventus was relegated to the second division for its role in
the domestic match-fixing scandal.
Aubameyang, a member of AC Milan's youth squad, converted a header off a
cross from Andrea Pirlo in the 86th minute at San Siro. The French
nineteen-year-old had replaced Cristian Brocchi only four minutes earlier.
"Big clubs need young players from their farm system," Milan owner Silvio
Berlusconi said.
The exhibition is named for Berlusconi's father Luigi.
Filippo Inzaghi opened the scoring when he redirected a cross from Brocchi
from the edge of the box in the 29th.
Pavel Nedved converted a rebound for Juventus in the 41st to make it 1-1.
Juventus captain Alessandro Del Piero redirected in a free kick with a
header in the 67th and Milan equalized a minute later with a header by
Clarence Seedorf, off another cross from Brocchi.
Juventus defenders Jean-Alain Boumsong and Giorgio Chiellini left the game
with injuries.
Matteo Darmian, a 17-year-old defender, made his Milan debut, replacing
captain Paolo Maldini in the 68th.
The Trofeo Berlusconi is usually played in August but was postponed this
season due to the fallout from the scandal. Milan had to play Champions
League qualifying in August and Juventus was engaged in the early rounds of
the Italian Cup.
Also Saturday, Serie A leader Inter Milan beat the Bahrain national team 6-1
in an exhibition match. Adriano and Mariano Gonzalez each scored twice for
Inter and Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Douglas Maicon also tallied. Abib Husain
scored for Bahrain.
Inter is training in Bahrain for the winter break. The Italian season
resumes in a week's time.
