Gallas: Gunners saviour

Game of the weekend
Arsenal v Manchester United

The game of the season so far lived up the hype as Arsenal produced a dramatic
late finish to earn a 2-2 draw at Emirates Stadium. William Gallas diverted
Wayne Rooney's shot into his own net right on the stroke of half-time, but Cesc
Fabregas popped up to equalise soon after the break with his 11th goal of an
amazing season. Cristiano Ronaldo looked to have won the game for United, but
Arsenal showed their resilience to conjure up an injury-time equaliser through
Gallas.

Player of the weekend
Benjani

The Portsmouth striker has received his fair share of criticism during his time
at Fratton Park, but the Zimbabwean is enjoying a purple patch in front of
goal. The former Auxerre hit-man gave the Newcastle defence a torrid time at St
James' Park with an all-action display as Harry Redknapp's side won 4-1 to
record their first win on Tyneside since 1949. Benjani helped himself to a goal
in the win to bring his tally to eight and leave him as the Premier League's
top scorer.

Pass of the weekend
Nigel Reo-Coker

The Villa midfielder kept his cool to pick out team-mate Ashley Young at the
back post with a precise pass to enable his team-mate to score from close-range
and seal a 2-0 win for Martin O'Neill's men against Derby County.

Team of the weekend:

1) James (Portsmouth)
2) Young (Middlesbrough)
3) Pamarot (Portsmouth)
4) Laursen (Aston Villa
5) Samba (Blackburn)
6) Petrov (Aston Villa)
7) Davies (Fulham)
8) Kranjcar (Portsmouth)
9) Benjani (Portsmouth)
10) Agbonlahor (Aston Villa)
11) Wright-Phillips (Chelsea)

Shocker of the weekend
Claudio Cacapa

The Newcastle defender had a bad day at the office as Portsmouth recorded a 4-1
win at St James' Park. The former Lyon man was given a torrid time by
Portsmouth and he was to blame for Benjani and John Utaka's goals in the
opening 11 minutes. Cacapa was put out of his misery when he was hauled off by
a bemused Sam Allardyce with just 18 minutes gone.

Miss of the weekend
Dirk Kuyt

The Liverpool striker endured a forgettable showing at Ewood Park as it
appeared he left his shooting boots at home. The Dutchman wasted three good
chances to score in the second half as Liverpool were held by Blackburn. Kuyt
really should have won the game for Liverpool late on when Harry Kewell played
the ball into his path inside the box, but with only Brad Friedel to beat he
blazed his shot wildly over the top.

Goal of the weekend
Noe Pamarot

The Portsmouth defender was an unlikely scorer in his side's amazing win at
Newcastle. There looked very little danger when the ball dropped from a corner
to Pamarot on the edge of the box, but the defender unleashed a stunning
left-footed shot which flew into the top corner past a stranded Steve Harper.
Notable mention should also go to Middlesbrough's Luke Young after his thumping
equaliser against Tottenham as the full-backs showed the strikers how to score
this weekend.

Performance of the weekend
Portsmouth

Portsmouth take the honours for performance of the weekend with a stunning
success at Newcastle. Harry Redknapp's men tore Newcastle apart in the early
stages as they raced into a 3-0 lead before winning 4-1. Pompey have long been
renowned as a side that struggles away from home, but they enjoyed themselves
on Tyneside as they moved into fourth spot.
