Guus Hiddink Slams Sir Alex Ferguson's Champions League Final Tactics The 'Golden Guus' has sensationally accused Sir Alex of tactical ineptitude and of ruining the CL final...
9 Jun 2009 03:46:04 Guus Hiddink has risked the ire of Sir Alex Ferguson by branding the Scot culpable for Manchester United's toothless defeat against Barcelona in the Champions League final last month. Hiddink, who did not exactly cover himself in glory when Chelsea succumbed to Barca in the semi-final of the same competition, accused the United boss of not preparing his team nearly well enough for the occasion. "I had no joy watching the Champions League final," Hiddink was quoted as saying by Sky Sports. "It was boring. There was only one team on the pitch and it was Barca. "There was no real fight and it was proof that it's very important to analyse the opponent. "Barcelona played their own football, but they also knew in advance all the weaknesses of Manchester United." Many accused Hiddink, who has now returned to coaching Russia on a full-time basis after his tenure as caretaker coach of Chelsea, of adopting an overly negative approach against Barca, but few could argue that his team gave the Catalan super-club more of a challenge.
