I used portable app version of XAMPP. http://portableapps.com/apps/development/xampp
I have the LITE version installed on 2 USB drives with boltwire too and several other web programs (Wordpress, etc..). I use boltwire as a kind of personal note taker / organizer. My work computer reads the USB and runs the XAMP great from the USB as localhost.
