The problem browser managed to fix it by editing lines in his firefox:

"[changed the] 'network.standard-url.encode-query-utf8' in
about:config in FF3 to true [for the link to work when i wrote it
in]:/"

The link worked when clicking on a link, but not when he wrote it in
the url bar. It would be interesting to see what the difference is in
what is sent to the server, but since the problem is solved, I can't
be bothered to debug further.
