Good news... I downloaded 3.18 again and now the snippets work inside functions! No idea if it was human failure (me) or if it was an older 3.18.

Another problem that shows up in 3.18: [if equal Markus Markus]$$actions[if] gives me: ! login$ login register $[if ! (equal Markus Markus)]view create edit copy rename delete undo source changes data zones skin site plugins title help logout search print [if] This is on-site text, not in the source. I tried [if* equal Markus Markus]$$actions[if*] and that worked. Why do I need the asterisk-if now?
