Actually, I thought it might have something to do with it so I did this first with no effect...

Comments didn't work.
Then when I changed it to what you had...
[if ! equal {p} site][(breadcrumb)][if]
It still made no difference...
If I remove everything... it still shows it. Somehow it is being picked up
still.
