Hey everybody, We have been talking several times about a version control system that would make so many things so much easier. No more copy and paste this line there, better tracking of changes, easier testing of unreleased versions and so on and so on. Also it would allow to improve for example a system page and submit it with diff view and conflict resolution. Anyone else would instantly see what is new. This shall not replace discussions but make them easier and shorter. Especially small things just don't need to be discussed. Why should one report a typo? Just fix it and save everybody's precious time.
Especially for the 4.x development process, Dan would be able to receive instant feedback on changes without releasing unfinished versions to the site. And yes, he'd be still able to create a release zip with at the click of a mouse button. :) Well, I set a repository up for demonstration. To push the decision a little bit in any direction. I put the BoltWire files on my server and created a Bazaar repository. Bazaar because it's nice and easy, allows offline working and you have all the files right on your disk. Of course, now you can't wait to have a look (hopefully)... Bazaar download: http://wiki.bazaar.canonical.com/Download I installed the Mac version which included a GUI that can be run from Terminal with 'bzr explorer". The Windows version includes one or two GUIs as well. Shell use is also quite straight-forward. Just refer to the docs. I'll send the required login and connection information to anyone interested. You would simply have to create a local branch from the address I will give you. The files would be downloaded, you would see the change log and could start demo-contributing.
