“Hello, I'm Timmy, the turkey. I'm sitting here in my tiny, wire cage on Thanksgiving day and musing. I'm one of the few survivors. The rest of my family and friends are gone. The cage to my left where my sister was is empty. And the cage on my right where my father was is empty. They, and all my other family were taken away a few weeks ago. I know where they went. I was taken too. But the factory closed before my turn came. I had to watch as all my family and friends went through the massacre line. It was terrifying! Now their mangled bodies are lying on platters as people gather around and laugh, and joke, and talk about all the things they are thankful for this Thanksgiving day. I'm glad their families can get together and have a nice time. But I wish they would think of me and my family. I will never see my family again. They are all gone. My brothers and sisters, my parents and grandparents – I will never see any of them again. I'm the only one left. I hang my head and my eyes get a little misty when I think of them.
But there is one bright spot. There are a few more turkeys that survived this year because more people out there became vegetarian. So anyway, I will be very thankful if next Thanksgiving you would think of me and my family, and spare our lives. That would make our Thanksgiving day a bit brighter. And maybe even forward this email to some other people – it might help save our lives!
