Thanks for your thoughts Marko and yes, Cage should have (almost)
been shot for that movie.........ugh big time. I added Birds to my
never ending TBR list. A book comes to mind that you might
like....For the Sake of Elena by Eliz. George. Takes place in Greece
when they were overtaken by the Germans (I forget) but it was a
heroic book and I remember loving it.......many years ago. Just a
thought! Linda/CT

expect from de Bernieres and more. Funny, sad, horrific and riotous.
Set in a community in Turkey, half Muslim, half Christian it centres
around a small town that has to deal with the effects of the power
hungry governments that surround and control them. Amusing situations
develop where women who marry into a family that is of different
religion calmly assume that they will have to change from being a
christian to a muslim christian or from muslim to christian muslim.
Read it, you will love it.

as Kephalonia plays a part in Bird's without Wings and wanted to
remind myself of the scharacters and the story and spot the ties.
Definitely getting more out of it now as Birds without Wings is
almost a prequel although none of the main characters exist in both
books (some of the government one's do even if only mentioned in
passing whilst people discuss their deaths). De Bernieres researches
his books well and ties the true history of the regions into his
fictional books in a fantastic way. I have learnt so much about the
history of the eastern Mediteranean from reading him that it leaves
me a little shocked at my prior ignorance.

to film interptreations that I have ever had the misfortune to sit
through and Nicholas Cage should have his tongue ripped out for the
accent he attempted. Grrr..........
