Hi Susan, welcome to the group!

I assume you mean you have just found the Bookcrossing
website? We are all members of Bookcrossing, which is
sort of a huge, international bookclub. The main aim
is to release your books and track their journey as
they travel the world! you can wild release
book..(i.e. leave on a park bench, cafe, phone booth
etc!) or trade them with other bookcrossing members.
Each book has it's own unique ID number....you need to
register each book on the BC website to get it's ID
number.

Go to the main home page of BC and read the info there
and keep asking questions until you understand how it
works...it's a LOT of info to take iin all at once. To
get to the BC website click on the URL under my name
in my signature line....(or go to
www.bookcrossing.com)

There is no time limit.....if you want to go in a book
relay where a book is posted to a number of people on
a list then they like you to read it and pass it on
within a month, but apart from that there are no time
limits that I am aware of. The idea is to register
some of your own books and decide which ones you are
happy to give away, release those, and hope the
'finder' journals a message to tell you where you book
is. PLUS you can go hunting for other people's
released books, participate in book rings, book rays,
swaps etc etc etc.

As far as donations go....well you can check the
forums, people often ask for books for different
causes (for example I am gathering books for a
housebound lady in my city - I live in australia! -
and I posted a message on the Australian BC yahoo list
and 6 people offered to send me books for this lady)
or you can register your books and give them away as
you see fit....some people donate them to charity
shops and hope the person who buys the book will
journal it and then pass it on to someone else.

i hope this helps....keep asking questions if you are
still confused....that's what we are here for! :-)
