Re: British books ---- Don't make fun of me but was Tolkien British? How about James Herriott? (Non-fiction but All Creatures great and Small is wonderful.) Re: I keep hearing about getting in over your head with rings and rays, and I can see how it could happen, but my experience has been just the opposite.
