I actually heard of this book (and read it and its sequel) *because*
of the movie, so maybe it's not such a bad thing after all. I like
to read the book before I see the movie, so often movies bring good
books to my attention that I otherwise might've missed. I tend to
think that most kids who say they will watch the movie instead of
reading the book are kids who wouldn't read the book anyway, even if
there wasn't a movie. So maybe movies cause more good than harm in
the book world. But maybe I'm wrong, what do you think?

more books being adapted for the silver screen? I hate to think
about how many kids have adapted the attitude: [casual shrug] I'll
just see the movie.
