Please, Make it stop!!!! ----- Original Message ----- From: Gina Robertson To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, September 25, 2004 2:54 PM Subject: Re: [BookCrossing] Think I'll get flamed for this but...
"poof, never heard from again..." sounds like a wild release, doesn't it? My point is that you can choose to get constipated about it or you can choose to think of it the same way you think of wild releases and consider it a BONUS if your books ever do get heard from again, just like with wild releases. Seems to me, thinking in terms of "contract" and "crime" and responsibility" only begs stress for yourself. Creating a blacklist of evil bookcrossers who don't "play nice" reminds me of the McCarthy era and seems rather paranoid to me. I can't see that it would enhance the fun of bookcrossing in any way. Perhaps we should start a list of people who are anal retentive about their books. I certainly would refrain from joining any of those rings or rays. In fact, please put me at the top of your blacklist and if I happen to forget and request to be on your bookring sometime, just remind me of the contract, the responsibility and the dire consequences if I don't adhere to the standards, and I will be happy to withdraw and just go out and by the book or check it out at the library. /gina BC: Saoirse n. We're not talking about books that get lost for awhile. We're talking about books that simply *poof* and are never heard from again. I had one that happened to recently. It was a book from my TBR pile and there was no mistake that I expected the book to return. I haven't read it yet. It was lost with the very first person on the list. I know it's just a book. But it went out with an understanding. There is a thread in the forums regarding this very thing and I don't know how many pages of posts regarding losts rings and rays. The same people came up over and over. Shouldn't people be aware of this when forming a ring? Shouldn't they have the option of refusing someone? We have that option with everything else. WW was PM'ing people in secret for RABCK's and for trades. And asking that it not be made public. Shouldn't Newbies at least have *some* warning? In a community this large there are going to be all kinds of people. The ones that can't 'play nice' shouldn't be allowed to ruin it for others. Real life, actions carry consequences, good and bad.
