>From Salems Lot On page 360 of the Simon and Schuster paperback, we see the vampire-boy Danny Glick attempting to enter Mark Petrie's window. In order the ignore the strong beckoning of Danny, Mark puts his mind elsewhere by reciting the saying "In vain he thrusts his fist against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts." which is a well known line that Bill Denbrough kept trying to say as a child and couldn't because of his stutter. It also plays an important role later in It. This is a quote used in at least two of Steven Kings books. Not sure of the origin of the quote though....if it's King or someone else.
