Re: We all hope that children grow up with a balanced view of life and a good body image and yet some folk want to ban it from view. Speaking as somone who chooses to spend vacations at nudist vacation sites, I could not think of a more courteous nor safer place to bring children. I think this must be cultural. Northern Europe it is almost a given, and Southern Europe is almost nothing. UK is quite uptight and restricted. US cannot speak for but think that there is quite restricted. ---- US people can be very uptight about nudity. We have brought our 4 year old to a nudist campground & he loved it. We are naked a lot in our home (we live in New Orleans and restrict the amount of air conditioning we use to save money.) My son said to me this morning, "Mommy. That is your vagina. The part with the hair." Once he was asking about how babies come out through the vagina which is a hole between the woman's legs. I said that is right and he asked to see the hole (I think I was wearing underwear at the time.) I told him "No" & he started ducking his head about trying to see & saying "Just for a minute!" I think he assumed that I just found it inconvenient to show him, not that I was uncomfortable. I just distracted him into doing something else. I am relatively comfortable with nudity but not quite that comfortable (plus I can imagine the stories that would come up in school.)
Re: Marko...I would say that the US is pretty conservative re. nudist beaches. However, and it's gone now, but about 10 years ago there was a portion of a beach in Rhode Island that was nudist....verrry intersting. I myself could never do it, at least not at THIS age and probably EVER, but wooohooo if that's your thing. ---- I work with people with developmental disabilities, mostly involving mental retardation. Some of the people we support went on a cruise a few years ago. The top deck was reserved for topless sunbathing. One of the people we support (a man) went up to the top deck & positioned his deck chair so that he was facing the topless sunbathers (instead of the ocean view.) Luckily one of my staff saw him, took him aside, & explained to him that he could sit up there but he needed to face the ocean & just catch glances discretely. Re: Go Ask Alice song ----The "Alice" of the book's title refers to the druggie girl of that name in the 1967 Jefferson Airplane hit White Rabbit, a song that expounds upon a drug theme its lyricist found in Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. ------------------------ Yahoo!
