I have done this.  I adopted several soldiers for Christmas through a local 
radio station.  I sent each a book and one a box of books to share.  I just 
adopted a few more and with the other stuff I send them, I will send each a 
book 
or 2.  They really appreciate it.  The radio station is keeping up the 
adoption program till the war ends.  I was really glad to hear that.
