I just finished Peter Ackroyd's "The Lambs of London", about Mary & Charles Lamb, sister & brother, who together wrote "Tales from Shakespeare". (Mary 1764-1847; Charles 1775-1834)
Now I'm starting "R is for Ricochet" by Sue Grafton. I do like to mix my mysteries up! I did enjoy reading "The Lambs of London". Ackroyd says it's "not a biography but a work of fiction." However, after I finished, I found myself really uncomfortable with his 're-writing' of history. Here, it's not just a question of re-working a few dates. I'm looking now for a newer biography of Mary Lamb, "The Devil Kissed Her" by Kathy Watson. (Mary Lamb is often best remembered as having murdered her mother.) Has anyone read this??
