The last three of my seven children graduated high school last May. I
was looking forward to the "empty nest" and to having lots and lots of
"me" time. Then child #4 decided to transfer to a college close to
home and move back. Then child #5 made some really unfortunate
choices and DH and I insisted she move back home and transfer to same
college as child #4. Then child #3, who teaches biology in a very
poor and depressed area of south Georgia, developed a connection with
a young man who said he wanted to get out of the gangs, violence, etc.
She called with the pleading "Mom?" and we said yes. So now we have
this 18 year old high school junior who has no social, study or life
skills living with us. It's like raising a two year old, which I
really didn't expect to be doing at this stage of my life. Now I have
two weeks until children #6 and 7 are home for the summer. At least I
have someone to help take care of the nine dogs, seven cats, Amazon
parrot, rat, tortoise, lizard and five aquariums. :D
