I worked in a good-sized library system and helped
weed books. There was a master list for each branch of
books that had to be pulled. The main criteria was
that it hadn't circulated in two years, no matter what
the subject matter was. Then we looked for damage or
wear. Then we looked to see if it was simply out of
date information (medical, for example)and how many
others were on the shelf in the same area.
 Of course the manager and info specialists reviewed
those that had been pulled to make sure we still had
something appropriate in that area on the shelf. This
was all started at the upper levels of the system to
make sure that something was still available
*somewhere* within the system.
 Interesting process. The sales were held several
times a year with one huge summer sale.
