I think Stephen King has matured as a writer, too. As for his blindness, he has macular degeneration..I don't know if it is caused by substance abuse or not. I would say that he has matured as a writer. He's also also now sober and that clarity of mind would certainly have to have an effect on his writing. Personally, I think he's improved.
