Don't worry about being baffled, that's part of the function of this list and also there is a forum section devoted to Newbies who are baffled. There are lots of bookcrossers who maintain websites separate from the BC main site and one of them (help me here gang) has a site with a lot of info on the "extra-curriculum" things that you can get into. A book ray/ring is started by someone, anyone, you for instance, that has a book they think other people would be interested in reading. You post on forum, and here that you are willing to organize it and people will PM (private message) you their locations, and whether they have the funds to mail internationally. You make the rules, like whether you will only accept people from a certain country or continent and anything else you feel like specifying. When you are ready you make a journal entry listing the order of the ring/ray usually based on location and mailing ability and mail the book off (in the US use Media Mail, it's $1.42 for a normal size paperback) to the first person on the list. They read the book, hopefully in 30 to 60 days and then check your journal entry for the screen name of the next person. They PM them for their address and off it goes again. Repeat until finished. The only difference between a ring and ray is that a ring goes back around to the original person that started it and a ray ends with the last person doing whatever they wish with the book, usually wild release. Hope that helps. There is a lot going on with bookcrossing and we are more than happy to explain it all so feel free to ask us anything. Susan

Pardon my jumping in, but is there an overall FAQ about Bookcrossing, beyond the one on the site itsefl? I'm new to BC and I'm just baffled by it all. For instance, what the heck is a Ray? :) Thanks for any advice... -DC [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------ Yahoo!
